Fatal Accident

Found out a college friend was in an accident and her husband was killed.  As not sure his relatives have been notified  so I will not indicate their names, but they were in the Honda Civic in the article below.  My heart and prayers go out to her and her son.

She had also been a roommate of our mutual friend Janet and we were on the Debate Team our senior year of college and usually shared a room when going out of town for debates.  I only knew her husband slightly, but what I knew of he was a devout Christian and he seemed very calm and patient.   I  been surprised that he had become a police officer, but then again, being so calm and patient in having to deal with highly fueled situations was probably a great asset.

I was at their wedding and instead of “Here Comes The Bride” they had the theme from “Star Wars” played.  I also was an assistant cake server.  I had no idea what I was doing or the proper way to cut a cake as it was sort of a last minute thing.   I got pieces on the plates without dropping any but can’t say there were consistent sizes and some had more frosting than others as it was falling off and didn’t always get it matched up with the piece of cake it had fallen off of.

I lost touch with her as life took us in different directions in the years after college, but we reconnected on Facebook several years back thanks to Janet.

Below is an article from the Middle Town Transcript

“A 54-year-old man died in a three-vehicle collision near Townsend Friday afternoon.

According to Delaware State Police, the collision happened on U.S. Route 13 at Blackbird Landing Road at about 3:30 p.m.

Robert A. MacDonough, 60, of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee north on Route 13 approaching the intersection of Blackbird Landing Road.

Police said MacDonough failed to stop for a red traffic signal and struck the left side of a 2002 Honda Civic, which was turning left from westbound Blackbird Landing Road onto southbound Route 13 on a green light.

The Honda was being driven by a 54-year-old Townsend man.

The force of the impact pushed the Honda into the rear of a 2013 Chrysler 200, which was on southbound Route 13, driven by Norman M. Richards, 37, of Clementon, New Jersey.

The driver of the Honda was treated by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

A 54-year-old female passenger and a 14-year-old male passenger in the Honda were treated at the scene by paramedics. They were transported to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries.

MacDonough has been charged with failure to stop at a red light; however, this crash remains under investigation, police said.”
