I used to live across the street from the old Franklin School building, which then was used as a National Guard Armory in 1984-1985 and later was a police training center. It has been torn down to make way for a new park but have read the arches that had been part of the original school will be maintained as an entrance to the park.
The park is to be million dollar project with a splash pad, a festival plaza, and the old firing range will be converted into a pavilion.
I tried to find additional information on the school and didn’t find much but that it had been a Jr. High from 1962 until at least until 1977 and before that had been a grade school.

One article I found indicated the school is around 100 years old and the year below “Franklin School” in the center arch is 1921.
